Data modelling in housing design
March 20, 2024
Habitat for Humanity Cambodia is working with computational design students from University of New South Wales in Australia to explore the use of data modelling in housing design for future projects. Prior to construction, modelling can help to optimise variables such as orientation of the house to minimise the exposure to sun rays.
In Cambodia’s Siem Reap province, 75 families who used to live along waterways and other hazard-prone areas have moved to a resettlement site in 2023. Each home features a gable roof and roof eaves that are designed to reduce heat and promote air flow indoors through ventilation gaps, windows and doors. Within the community, solid and liquid waste management helps to minimise pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, hence reducing the environmental impacts.
