Call for Projects: In-between Spaces | FuturArc 2Q 2024
19 FEBRUARY 2024 – To the general public, a ‘space’ is synonymous with emptiness. However, architects understand space to be a distinct creation—a container for activities, shaped and influenced by design.
Still, the interstitial areas between different anchoring functions, amidst disparate parcels of development in cities, or within landscapes, are often ‘othered’ and treated as an afterthought. How can architectural solutions be applied to such spaces for the public’s benefit?
The next issue of FuturArc will examine in-between areas, transitional zones, informal spaces and spatial designs that renegotiate existing boundaries.
If you have architectural works across all scales that make use of hallways, mezzanines, staircases, leftover spaces, etc., and/or extends an existing building towards a new function, send us a brief profile and photos to [email protected] by end of April 2024.
Email us with the following items for consideration:
1. Basic description of 200-300 words 2. Basic data: project status/completion date*; location; GFA; site area; architecture firm; developer 3. Low-resolution images that best illustrate the nature of the project & its sustainable design strategies
*Projects proposed should be completed in the last 2 years (2022 or 2023). Upcoming projects are acceptable; please indicate expected completion date
Please note that the selection of projects is subject to editorial discretion.

The houses I found were too expensive. Then, right before my eyes, I discovered something astonishing—the largest slum in Dhaka, spanning 90 acres of land and housing over 150,000 people, […]
