SMU CONNEXION

April 20, 2021

SMU Connexion (SMUC), an extension of the Singapore Management University (SMU), is the first net-zero energy building in the city that also showcases mass engineered timber (MET) technology. It is designed to meet the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) Green Mark Platinum certification and the international WELL Building Standard. It has been in operation since January 2020.

ENERGY SAVINGS

To achieve net-zero energy, SMUC encompasses all aspects of environmental design: from passive and active measures, site management, material selection, innovative features to occupant health and comfort.

In terms of passive design, the façade of SMUC comprises high-performance double-glazed and thermally insulated external walls. The building has an elongated south façade and a 37-per-cent window-to-wall ratio to minimise solar heat gain from the east and west. Study areas have sufficient daylight and glare is mitigated with external shading devices.
