IAI – BlueScope Steel Architecture Award 2024: Acknowledging Inspiring Steel Architectural Projects
[ADVERTORIAL] In conjunction with celebrating the 65th anniversary of the Indonesian Institute of Architects (IAI), NS BlueScope organised the ceremony of IAI – BlueScope Steel Architecture Award (SAA) 2024 on Monday, 16 September 2024 at Thamrin Nine Ballroom, Central Jakarta.
The event was held as a tribute to architects, consultants, building owners and construction professionals who have utilised BlueScope coated steel materials to create architectural works. The SAA has been held three times since 2017, and this initiative by BlueScope is expected to become a source of inspiration for industry stakeholders as well as to represent Indonesia at the upcoming ASEAN Steel Architecture Award in November.
For the 2024 event, the SAA trophy was specially designed by Rita Widagdo, a master sculptor and lecturer at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). With a philosophical design that reflected BlueScope’s strength and elegance, steel was the focus of the design. The SAA trophy not only symbolised excellence but also strength, flexibility and the company’s vision of the future.
There were five award categories for built architectural structures using BlueScope coated steel: Commercial; Industrial; Residential; Infrastructure, Institutional & Others; and the special category Lasting Beauty of COLORBOND Steel, which showcased the material’s durability in historic buildings.
The chief juror of SAA 2024, architect Achmad D. Tardiyana, MUDD, IAI, explained: “The criteria for the SAA 2024 judging was based on four aspects present in the buildings, namely…
- Visualisation of building design utilising BlueScope steel,
- Efficiency through technology and the selection of innovative BlueScope steel supported by intelligent energy management systems,
- Sustainability through the use of environmentally friendly materials, sustainable construction practices, and designs that optimise resource use,
- Positive impact on building users, the local community and the surrounding environment.”
Following the judging process, SAA 2024 awarded one building from each category.
- Commercial: Quantis Club House by architect Rafael David Pasaribu, IAI of Aboday Design for the project owner of Sinar Mas Land and contractor Eka Mitra Talentamas.
- Industrial: FNI Head Office by architect Heru Mudito Prasetyo, IAI of HMP Architect for the project owner of PT Fajar Nusa Indah.
- Residential: MG House by architect Ida Bagus Gede Wahyudi Saraswati, IAI of Cowema Studio for the project owner of Gunardi Gunawan and contractor Munadi.
- Infrastructure, Institutional & Others: Indonesia Arena by architect Rafael David Pasaribu, IAI of Aboday Design for the project owner of PUPR & PERBASI and contractors PT Adhi Karya and PT Nindya Karya.
- Lasting Beauty of COLORBOND Steel: Raja Haji Fisabillilah International Airport by architect Tateng K. Djajasudarma, IAI., GP., AA. of PT Wiratman for the project owners Angkasa Pura I & Angkasa Pura II and contractor PT Jaya Konstruksi.
Through the awards, SAA 2024 is expected to stimulate growth in Indonesia’s construction industry and inspire professionals to explore coated steel as a way to promote responsible development in the country.
