FuturArc Prize 2024: Malaysian Team Adds to Their Award Collection
KUALA LUMPUR, 21 AUGUST 2024 – A team from Malaysia was bestowed a Merit for their entry in FuturArc Prize (FAP) 2024, which asked entrants to propose architectural solutions within Asia for the continuation of life after either Climate Destruction and/or Endings scenarios. The awarding was held last Friday, 16 August 2024 as part of BCI Asia Awards at JW Mariott Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.
This is not the first award received by the duo of Chai Yi Yang and Ng Yi Ming, who brought home the champion title of FAP 2022 and other awards in previous cycles. This year, their proposal titled Living Traces, Leaving Traces reimagined a resilient and adaptive community along the shoreline of Tawi-Tawi Island—a remote volcanic island in the Philippines that is facing existential threat due to rising sea levels.
The team received the Merit certificate, cash prize of SGD500 and 1-year subscription to FuturArc digital magazine via FuturArc app. Their prizes were bestowed by Sally Kheng, Regional Events Director of BCI Central alongside the Guest of Honour, YB Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, Minister of Works, Malaysia.
In his keynote speech, the Minister spoke about the importance of reducing the construction industry’s environmental impact going forward, as well as adopting disaster mitigation strategies in Malaysia. “Adopting Greener practices helps us lead in environmental stewardship and supports our sustainability goals. A key element in this initiative, the Environmentally Friendly Drainage Master Plan (PISMA) aims to reduce flood risks and build disaster-resilient cities using modern infrastructure and green technology … Let’s work together to ensure our development aligns with sustainability and fosters a healthier future.”
The awarded FAP 2024 entries will be featured soon in the 3rd Quarter 2023: Green Awards issue of FuturArc magazine, with the full panels available as an exclusive supplement on FuturArc app.
