FuturArc Prize 2022 Merit recipient awarded at BCI Asia Awards Singapore
24 JUNE 2022 – On Friday evening at the Fairmont Singapore, the annual BCI Asia Awards (BCIAA) was held to acknowledge the nation’s Top 10 developers and architecture firms, as well as recognise sustainable design ideas from the next generation of talents.
The keynote speech was delivered by Mr Melvin Tan, SIA President, Deputy Managing Director and Founding Partner at LAUD Architects Pte Ltd. It was followed by an Industry Expert Presentation by Mr Owen Wee, Principal Architect of SJ Architecture, Surbana Jurong.
The event also saw the awarding of FuturArc Prize (FAP) 2022, a student competition with the prompt of Reinterpretation. Entrants were asked to reimagine an empty or underused existing building in Asia to become a public property that is safe, inviting, sustainable and gives back to the community. The competition ran from 22 November 2021 to 11 March 2022, with judging held in April.
Benjamin Chong Mun Choen, a recent Master’s graduate from the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), was one of eight Merit recipients in this competition. Being an individual entrant, Chong is also the only awardee from Singapore for the 2022 cycle.
For his proposal to repurpose car parks as food production hubs, Chong was awarded with a cash prize of SGD500, certificate and a 1-year complimentary subscription to FuturArc App.
