SHIFT2022: Building Communities

Start Date November 17, 2022
End Date November 18, 2022
Venue Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre
Country Malaysia

The SHIFT conference brings together diverse speakers to inform a contemporary architecture discourse on building communities.

Framed within the inextricably complex and evolving circumstances of the 21st century, it addresses a two-fold challenge: how we begin to define a commonality and differences that is necessary to build communities, and in what way can architecture enact this through its physical space and built form.

Nine distinguished speakers convened to discuss issues pertinent to the notion of building communities in architecture and the built environment. The speakers are:

• Patama Roonrakwit (CASE, Bangkok)
• Nader Tehrani (NADAAA, Boston)
• Marina Tabassum (MTA, Dhaka)
James Shen (PAO, Beijing)
• Jo Patchara (POAR, Nonthaburi)
• Liu Yichun (Atelier Deshaud, Shanghai)
• Jo Jinman (JJA, Seoul)
• Maki Onishi (O+H, Tokyo)
• Miya Irawati (Urban Rural Systems, Jakarta)

The conference will be moderated by Chatpong Chuenrudeemol (CHAT Architects, Bangkok).

In light of the Malaysian General Election on Saturday, 19 November 2022, the conference has been rescheduled to 17-18 November (Thursday and Friday), one day earlier than the original dates.
