Green Awards Edition | Winning Projects and Designs from FuturArc Prize 2013 and FuturArc Green Leadership Award 2013
Every year, our bumper Green issue features winning ideas and projects from the annual FuturArc Prize and FuturArc Green Leadership Award. This year’s FuturArc Prize called for participants’ vision of a productive urban landscape. While most entries describe the conflict between humanistic aspirations and technical ambitions, the winners tell us that there need not be a conflict. Done right, they reinforce and amplify each other. The two first prize winners—one reimagines Yogyakarta, the other, Bandung—seek to restore urban networks and offer city-dwellers new public space and livelihood opportunities.
Similarly, the projects in the Main Feature (Small Projects, Big Impacts) speak volumes for how community placemaking can be good for people and planet. Finally, in the FuturArc Interview, we speak to two renowned Asian architects: Sanjay Prakash reflects that in the globalised world we have forgotten to design spaces for people, while Kevin Mark Low tells us that the design profession is missing a genuine insight into the human condition.
